These were one of the first killing centers implemented by Hitler, designed to kill a mass amount of patients that didn't fit the Aryan Race standards, or "undesirables". They were disguised as normal hospitals but the team of staff were trained to be killers. These institutions started by killing infants "mercy killings", and then moved on to older kids, teenagers, and eventually adults. People sent to these hospitals were not aware that death awaited them. A second motive for these killings was to open beds for the upcoming war.
Forced sterilizations was the way the Nazis controlled who could have kids. Many mentally and physically disabled people, black people, and countless others had this procedure performed on them against their will. Again, this was make to sure the master race stayed pure, of course. This practice can also be referred to as eugenics.
If you are unsure, the definition of an asocial is under Nazi ideology; they are people who don't conform to social norms. People who fit in this category according to the Nazis include, alcoholics and drug addicts, the mentally ill, homeless people, sex workers, and Roma and Sinti people. These people were viewed as odd in their society and something that needed to be "worked around".
This was the name attached to the building and running of the euthanasia and sterilization centers. Hitler signed documents to protect the team of people designated to work at each individual facility. The operation consisted of 6 gassing stations located in different parts of Germany. Questionnaires were sent out to try and collect patients that fit within the qualifications, these questionnaires focused on the mental and physical health and well-being of the person. When arriving at these facilities, patients were quickly led to gas chambers where they died. Then their ashes were added to a collective pile. Then the collective pile of ashes were put into urns and then sent to the family of the deceased. Along with this was an attached falsified cause of death.
This was the official name of the group of physicians, doctors, and other members who were tasked with giving questionnaires to midwives and other medical professionals. Their mission was top secret, but it was very hard to keep away from the public. People were felt they were justified with their actions because they would give sedatives to the young children to put them to sleep before sending them into the gas chambers, and the death rate was not abnormal compared to the usual death rate of babies and children with the same disease.
The Nazis loved to generalize and put people in boxes, one way they did this was through "classifying" everyone who either went to a concentration camp. death camp, and especially these medical killing facilities. This process was developed by sewing different colored markers into the clothes of the prisoners to symbolize why they were there, much like the Star of David that was mandatory for Jews.
Here is an example of the classification system, each symbol represents a different religion or way of thinking. According to the Untied States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Criminals- green inverted triangles, Political Prisoners- red, "asocials"- black or brown, and Jehovah's Witnesses- purple. " Non-German prisoners were identified by the first letter of the German name for their home country, whi
